15.1 - Care and
maintenance
This section must be brought to the
attention of the user by the installer so
that the user can make the necessary
arrangements with a quali
fi
ed service
agency for the periodic care and
maintenance of the heater. User must
check its heater follow Figure 15-1
column “User maintenance”.
The installer must also inform the
user that the lack of proper care and
maintenance of this heater and any
fuel burning equipment may result in an
hazardous condition.
Installer should discuss contents of
Section 14 (User’s section) with the
user.
A trained and quali
fi
ed service
technician should perform the inspection
listed in these instructions before each
heating season and at regular intervals.

Servicing,
inspection and adjustment
must be done by a trained
technician in accordance with
all applicable local and national
codes. Improper servicing or
adjustment could damage the
heater! Failure to comply with
this warning can result in a fi re
or explosion causing property
damage, personal injury or loss
of life!

Service Technician
User maintenance
Annual Startup:
- Address reported problems (Follow Section 15.1.1);
- Check all piping for gas leaks (Follow Section 15.1.2)
- Verify fl ue and air lines in good condition and sealed tight
(Follow Section 15.1.3);
- Check system water pressure/system piping/expansion tank
(Follow Section 15.1.4);
- Check control settings (Follow Section 15.1.5);
- Check ignition and fl ame sense electrodes (Follow Section
15.1.6);
- Check wiring and connections (Follow Section 15.1.7);
- Perform start up checkout and performance verifi cation (Follow
Section 15.1.8);
- Flame inspection (Follow Section 15.1.9);
- Check fl ame signal (Follow Section 15.1.10);
- Inspect combustion chamber. Clean and vacuum if necessary.
Clean the heat exchanger if the fl ue temperature is 63°F
(35°C) above return water temperature (Follow Section 15.3).
- Clean condensate box and fi ll with fresh water (Follow Section
15.6).
- Clean air fi lter (Follow Section 15.5)
- Check the capacity input (Follow Section 13.9).
- Check relief valve (Follow Section 15.1.11);
Daily
:
- Check heater area (Follow Section 15.1.12);
- Check pressure gauge (Follow Section 15.1.13);
Monthly
:
- Check vent piping and vent termination screen (Follow Section
15.1.14);
- Check air piping and air termination screen (Follow Section
15.1.15);
- Check relief valve (Follow Section 15.1.11)
- Check condensate drain system (Follow Section 15.1.16);
- Check any air vents on the system that no leaks are present
Periodically
:
- Test low water cut-off (if used) (Follow Section 15.1.19);
- Reset low water cut-off button (if used) (Follow Section 15.1.20)
Every six month:
- Check heater piping (gas and water) for leaks (Follow Section
15.1.17);
End of season months:
- Shut heater down (unless heater used for domestic hot water)
