Short description
The Safety-Temperature-Limiter type nVent RAYCHEM TCON-SLIM-
01/+x+y is an electronic thermostat monitoring the temperature of
heating equipment and machinery. The temperature is measured with a
Pt 100 resistance temperature detector (RTD) according to DIN 43760 /
IEC 751. The switching point is adjustable with a scale potentimeter. The
relay is designed for normally closed (nc) operation. If the temperature
rises and the preset limit is exceeded, the contact opens and remains
locked. The relay can be reset manually only after the temperature has
decreased app. 10 K below switching point. The thermostat series
TCON-SLIM-01/+x+y complies with the higher safety standard according
DIN 3440 and meets safety category 3 (Safety of machines EN 954-1). If
DIN approval is recommended only use listed RTD’s.
Temperature range: 0...200°C, 100...300°C, 200...500°C
Power supply: AC 230 V, DC 24...240 V
Intended use
Intended use according directive 97/23/EG Pressure Devices – safety
related parts (control equipment) - limiting equipment (release and lock).
With supply voltage switched on, the TCON-SLIM-01/+x+y operates in
a changeable lockout mode and the relay must be started by a reset
(manually with built-in reset button or external reset) to make contact
(no) close. Applicable within steadily controlled plants. According to DIN
3440 the function has to be routine-tested periodically.
Operation and set-up
The resistance of a Pt 100 RTD is measured, the signal send to both
independent electronic channels and compared with the preset limit.
Every comparator sets a relay. The relay contacts are made in series thus
the outputs operates as a single change over contact. When temperature
is below the preset limit and there is no failure in the sensor circuit both
relays K1 and K2 can pick up and contact 11,14 is closed. The TCON-
SLIM-01/+x+y monitors sensor line interruption (UB) or sensor short
circuit (KS). The red LED “Sensor” signals a failure in the sensor circuit
and both relays release. Contact 11,12 is closed for warning/alarm. The
red LED K1 and LED K2 also signal alarm when temperature exceeds
the preset limit and both relays K1 and K2 release. The green LED ON/
Ready is not alight and control relay picks up, the contact at terminal 6,7
is open (break contact, nc). The TCON-SLIM-01/+x+y operates now in
not changeable safety mode, the relays are locked. When temperature is
app. 10 K below the limit the control relay (contacts 6/7 close) releases
and the green LED is alight. The TCON-SLIM-01/+x+y now operates in
changeable safety mode, the relays can be reset manually with built-in
reset button or with external contact (make contact, no) at terminal Y1,
Y2. The internal fuse prevents melting of the relay contacts.
Function overview
• Suitable for one Pt 100 RTD (temperature sensor connected in
2 wire circuit)
• One failure cannot cause a hazardous function
(two channel design)
• Sensor monitoring of short circuit or line interruption
• Preset limit can be sealed
• Function indication with LED’s for relays and sensor
• Built-in reset button or external contact, no
• Plug-in electronic, easily mounting and service
Installation – Putting into operation
Important notice! Read carefully!
The device must only be used in compliance with all instructions from
this instruction manual. In order to handle the device in accordance
with safety requirements and to ensure its trouble-free operation, the
fundamental prerequisite is a knowledge of the basic safety information
and the safety regulations. Only appropriately qualified personnel may
work on the device. The term „qualified“ means that such personnel are
familiar with the installation, commissioning and operation of the device
and that have undergone training or instruction, which is appropriate to
the activity.
Failure to take note of the wiring diagram and the respective
explanations, unauthorised modifications or the use of spare parts
which are not recommended by the manufacturer of the device may
cause injuries, electric shocks, fire and damage to the device and the
associated equipment.
Make sure that the device and the associated equipment are switched
off before assembling/fitting, disassembly, connection or structural
modifications are carried out.
Connection must only be carried out in compliance with the wiring
diagram and the respective explanations, which are included in the
technical data’s.
Mounting and connection
The plug base can be mounted
• Snapable on 35 mm standard rail according to DIN 50 022
• wall-mount with 2 x screws M4
When installing the device into the switchgear cabinet, please observe
the max. admissible temperature. Care for both, sufficient clearance to
other devices or sources of heat or enough forced draught. Generally
recommended minimum clearance: 10 mm.
Wiring directly to plug base
• connect wires as per wiring scheme
• adjust temperature limit
• Apply mains voltage to terminals A1 and A2 (DC A1= +, A2= -)
Before switching on make sure that the supply voltage Us on the
lateral type plate corresponds with the mains voltage.
• When device is ready for operation, relay K3 is released (terminals
6-7 closed); the green LED “Ready/ON” is alight. Red LED’s signal the
relays K1, K2 are released.
• Press button “Reset”. Relay K1, K2 pick up and terminals 9,10 close.
Red LED’s are off.
Attention!
Do not plug in device alive nor detach it from socket.
Trouble shooting and remedies
• LED “Ready ON” is not alight!
Check the supply voltage! Make sure that the supply voltage is
connected correctly (+/-) to terminals A1/A2 and corresponds with
the type plate.
• K3 picks up, red LED UB or short circuit is alight!
Check the sensor! Make sure, that the Pt 100 sensor is connected to
terminals 1,2
and the resistance of RTD is within correct range.
• K3 picks up, red LED’s K1, K2 are alight, no Reset possible!
Check the temperature! Make sure, that the adjusted temperature
limit is higher than the measured temperature. Reset can be done if
measured temperature is app. 10 K below the preset limit and green
LED “ On/Ready” is alight.
In case of any other malfunctions, replace device and send it in together
with a shortdescription of the occurred failure.
