Ransomes Jacobsen grinding paste:
PROCCEDURE
1. Apply an even coat of backlapping compound to the
entire length of each blade of the reel.
2. Turn the Reel Speed Control valve counterclockwise
(C) see section 6.8 Reel Speed Control to allow reels
to rotate at there slowest speed.
3. Set the backlap switch (A) see section 6.2F to the
backlap position .
4. Start the engine and set the throttle to low idle.
Switch the cutting unit switch (PTO) (B) see section
6.2E to the on position.
5. Slowly turn the Reel Speed Control knob clockwise
(D) until the desired reel rotation speed is attained. It
should be slow enough so that the reel will not throw
off the backlapping compound as it spins.
NOTE
•
The operator can leave the driving seat for 3 minutes
during backlapping before the machine shuts down
unless it see’s a manual input.
6. Once all the blades on the reel are uniformly sharp,
shut off the engine and switch the cutting unit switch
(PTO to the off position. Set the backlap switch to off
and close the Reel Speed Control (all the way
clockwise).
NOTE: To ensure proper reel rotation, make sure the Reel Speed Control is completely closed.
7. Wash all of the backlapping compound from all of the heads. Once they are thoroughly cleaned and dry,
apply a light film of oil to the cutting edges to help prevent rust.
8. After backlapping, the reel to bedknife adjustment should be made again.
