This is the “hot” side of the steam switch, as indicated by the black wires connected to
the tab immediately below the empty tab. Polarity of these wires is important to the
proper function of the coil in the relay. So be sure to connect the brown wire as shown.
Step S4 – Connect purple wire to the “neutral” side of
the steam switch
In order to complete the wiring modifications at the steam switch, it will probably be
necessary to rotate the cover on to its left side. Place a
soft cloth
directly on the top of
the exposed brew group. Then
carefully
rotate the cover until it can be laid on its left
side on this soft cloth. See photo below.
