Installing The Fixed Locomotive Pilot
If desired, your locomotive can be outfitted with pilots that are fixed to the chassis for a
more realistic appearance. An extra set of pilots has been included with your engine for
such a configuration.
NOTE:
Installing the fixed pilots will decrease the locomotive’s
minimum turning diameter. With fixed pilots your locomotive will be restricted to R3
(97” diameter) curves. You will need to purchase a Kadee Coupler separately.
Installing The Fixed Pilot
To remove the factory installed floating pilots, remove the two screws from the MTH
Proto-Coupler or Hook & Loop coupler & armature. Once you remove the coupler and
floating pilots apply the fixed pilots to the chassis and attach them with the 7 shorter
screws that are provided. The front pilot attaches with 3 screws and the rear pilot
attaches with 4 screws.

NOTE:
When the Proto-Coupler is installed in position B, the knuckle pin must be cut
off (see figure below). The coupler pin has been “scored” so that it can be easily cut off
with a pair of snippers.
The Hook & Loop coupler mounts to the truck in the same manner as the
Proto- Coupler.
If a Kadee Coupler is to be installed you will need to install fixed pilots.
