What can I do to increase the range?
Many factors which influence the range are
incontrollable. However, there are a few tips for the
trained cyclist to increase their distance travelled on a
single battery charge.
•
Make sure the tire pressure is correct
An under inflated tire results in a lot of drag which
diminished the efficiency of the motor strongly.
Make sure the tire is inflated close to the maximum
indicated pressure (see side of the tire wall)
•
Change gears in time
With the powerful motor assistance it almost feels
unnecessary, but be aware that changing your
gears in time can make a major difference in the
effective range of your battery charge. Especially
taking off at a traffic light in the wrong gear can
cost a lot of extra energy.
•
Try a lower power assistance level
Especially on flat terrain, under normal
circumstances the highest assistance levels on the
motor are too powerful. Sometimes a lower level
can lead to a more comfortable experience. If a
long range is your goal, try a lower assistance level.
You will see you’ll get a lot further!
Why is there such a big difference between the
minimum and maximum advised range?
As indicated, the main factor that influences range is
the chosen power assistance mode. Especially the rear
drive motor, which powers the Performance RD9.2 and
RD10 models, has a very energy efficient lowest power
level. This results in a long range. At higher power levels
the range decreases fast, as can be seen from the graph
below.

Besides the power assistance level there are more
factors that influence the range, such as:
•
Total weight (bike + c luggage)
•
Total resistance or drag (wind, tire pressure, gears,
road condition and altitude variation)
•
Outside temperature
•
Battery age (the capacity of a battery decreases
with time, about 5-10% per year)
