F. ADJUSTING REAR SEAT HEIGHT (Fig. 4)
Prior to adjusting rear seat height, follow the instructions in Letter H-4. To adjust rear seat
height, loosen and remove the 8 cap screws (A) (4 per side) that secure the camber tube.
Move the camber tube to the desired height and reinstall the 8 cap screws. Prior to tighten-
ing these screws, follow the instructions for toe-in and toe-out adjustment (Letter H-3).
NOTE–
Adjustment to rear seat height also requires caster angle adjustment. See Letter I.
G. CUSHION (OPTIONAL) INSTALLATION
Place cushion on seat sling with VELCRO®-side down. The bevelled edge of the cushion
should be in front. Press firmly into place.
H. REAR AXLE
The most important adjustment on your Quickie/Sopur wheelchair is the position of the rear
axle. The centre of gravity and wheel camber are determined by the axle adjustment.
NOTE–
Use a torque setting of 11.3 Nm when adjusting rear axle.
1. Centre of Gravity
IMPORTANT NOTE–
Changing the centre of gravity forward increases the risk of a fall or tip over. Be
very careful to assure the chair will not tip over backwards.
NOTE–
Adjusting your chair’s centre of gravity may require caster angle adjustment. See Letter I.
Centre of Gravity Adjustment: (Figs. 5, 6, 7)
You can adjust your centre of gravity position by moving the two axle plates (B) forward or
rearward on the seat tube (C). Moving the axle plates forward shortens the wheelbase and
lightens the front end, making your chair more manoeuvrable. Moving the axle plates rear-
ward makes the chair more stable and less likely to tip over rearwards.
NOTE–
Changes to the centre of gravity may affect the rear seat height (Letter F), toe-in/toe-out of
the rear wheels (Letter H-3) and the squareness of the casters (Letter I). If you change your
centre of gravity position, re-adjust these if necessary.
Before adjusting your wheelchair’s centre of gravity, locate the additional saddles supplied
with the chair. This hardware may be required depending on the over-lap position of the
axle plates and back plates.
WARNING
The more you move your rear wheels forward, the more likely your chair will tip
over backwards. Always make adjustment in small increments, and check the sta-
bility of your chair with a spotter to prevent tip-over. We recommend that you use
anti-tip tubes until you adapt to the change and are sure you are not at risk to
tip over. Refer to additional Warnings in Section VI “Falls and Tip-Overs”.
NOTE–
Adjusting your chair’s centre of gravity will require re-adjusting the location of the wheel locks
(if provided). See Letter K for instructions on adjusting the wheel locks.
To adjust the centre of gravity location, remove both rear wheels. Remove the 4 bolts (D)
and nuts (E) (2 per side) that secure the axle plates to the seat tubes. Note that for certain
configurations, some of these bolts may also pass through the back plates. Remove any back
plate bolts, nuts and saddles if they also pass through the axle plate, or if they obstruct the
position to which you wish to move the axle plate. Slide both axle plates forward or rear-
ward along the seat tube to the desired position, and align the holes in the seat tube and
axle plate. The hole pattern allows for 1.3 cm (1/2") increments of adjustment. Different
sets of holes in the axle plates are used depending on the centre of gravity position.
Reinstall the bolts securing the axle plates and back plates to the camber tube. Install with
shorter or longer bolts and saddles from the additional hardware package, as required. Bolts
should occupy the outermost available holes in the axle plate. Make certain that a saddle is
always installed beneath the back plate and nut on the inside of the chair (F) when the
axle plate and back plate do not overlap. If the edge of the axle plate overlaps the back
plate and prevents installation of the standard saddle, then install a partial saddle supplied
with the additional hardware package.
