Configuring and Installing the CPC358
After receiving the RTM358, use the following steps to configure and install the CPC358.
Follow these steps to configure the CPC358:
1. Remove the filler panel on the front of the MPS1000 by unscrewing the captive screws.
2. Remove the CPC358 following the steps described in
“Removing a CPC358,” on page 37
Note: It is important to remember if you are updating a 4-port MPS1000 to an 8-port
MPS1000, the SW1 switch on the CPC358 must be set properly for the running conditions
of the MPS1000. Further information on setting SW1 can be found on
3. Set the SW1-2 switch to the Open (OFF) position on the CPC358, as described in
.
4. Reinsert the CPC358 following the steps described in
“Installing a CPC358,” on page 39
.
Installing the RTM358
Conversion to an 8-port MPS1000 requires the replacement of the 4-port RTM358 with an 8-
port RTM358. Additionally you will need to install a 6U 1-slot rear filler panel to maintain the
chassis’s shielding and cooling performance. The steps for installing the RTM and the rear filler
panel are as follows:
Follow these steps to insert an 8-RTM358 and rear filler panel into an MPS1000:
1. Inspect the 8-port RTM358 and the rear filler panel. If new, they may come with protective plastic
covers on the latches’ captive screws. These will need to be removed before the items can be
installed.
2. Remove the 4-port RTM at the rear of the MPS1000 chassis.
3. Ensure that the 8-port RTM358’s latches are open. The latches have a locking mechanism that will
need to be pressed in order to open the latches.
4. Holding the 8-port RTM by its latches, align the RTM in the MPS1000’s card guides.
5. Slide the RTM gently straight into the lower slot, keeping the RTM level. Do not apply too much
pressure, particularly if you feel resistance. You should feel the pin connectors on the rear of the RTM
meet the backplane.
6. Continue to slide the RTM into the slot until the latches touch the extrusions on either side of the slot.
