13 Data exchange
13.1 General
The pyrometer has a RS485 interface. The RS485 interface allows data exchange between the pyrometer
and a central processing unit (e.g. computer) using commands. The interface works in half duplex, i.e. it can
either send or receive. The interface is characterized by the following parameters:
•
8 data bits
•
1 stop bit
•
even parity
•
baud rate adjustable
The transmission with the RS485 interface is as far as possible not susceptible to interference, it is used for
very long transmission distances and one interface can be linked to up to 32 pyrometers in a bus system. If
there is no RS485 interface available on the computer, then this can be effected using the optionally-
available interface module RS485 to USB interface in order to transfer the measurement data via USB to the
PC.
13.1.1 Connection example of RS485 interface
Half-duplex operation C and D as well as E and F are bridged in the 12-pole circular connector of the cable
to avoid over-long branch lines and thus reflection and to avoid interrupting the RS485 data bus when
disconnecting a plug. The master designations characterize the connections to the RS485 converter. The
transmission rate of the interface (in Baud) depends on the cable length. Values between 9.600 Bd and
115.200 Bd can be set. A benchmark for 19.200 Bd is 2 km total cable length. The baud rate which can be
used is halved with the doubling of the transmission distance.
