The Reset Switch
A reset switch is standard to almost all PCs. Pushing
the switch will cause the computer to do a “hard”
restart. If the computer hangs during operation and
becomes unresponsive to other controls, you can re-
start the computer using this switch. Don’t use it if
the computer is operating normally. You should al-
ways shut down from within the Operating System.
Only use reset as a last resort and instead of turning
the computer off and then back on.
The Suspend Button
An external Suspend button appears on some cases.
Pushing the button will cause the system to enter
whatever power-saving suspend or “Sleep” mode it
is configured to enter. In suspend mode the computer
may appear to be turned off, but is in fact just in a
low power mode. Don’t turn the computer off when
it is suspended. Pushing the button while the system
is suspended will resume or “Wake Up” the system
and cause it to return to its previous state.
Indicator Lights
The motherboard supports several indicator lights
that may be present on the front panel of the system
housing. These include a Power LED, a Hard Disk
Drive LED and a Suspend LED.
•
Power LED: Lights when the system is on
•
Hard Disk Drive LED: Flashes when the hard
disk drive is being accessed
•
Suspend LED: Lights when the system is in
power saving Suspend or “ACPI” mode
