OPERATING PROCEDURES
BLADES
Your CSW164 7-1/4” Circular Saw is designed to accept standard 7-1/4” (185 mm)
saw blades with 5/8'' (16 mm) arbor.
INSTALLING A SAW BLADE
IMPORTANT:
Unplug the saw.
1. Press and hold in the
Spindle lock button
(J, above) on the front of the motor
housing.
2. Turn the blade a bit until the spindle lock engages.
3. Using the hex blade wrench, loosen the
Hex socket head spindle bolt
(N,
above) by turning it counter-clockwise.
4. Remove the spindle bolt and washer.
5. Slide the blade guard all the way back and up.
6. Mount the blade on the spindle, making sure it is facing the right way. The
arrow on the blade should point in the same direction as that on the front right
of the blade guard. The blade should be oriented so that as it turns (counter-
clockwise when viewed from the right side of the saw), the teeth on the blade
are pointed toward the front of the saw.
7. Replace the spindle washer on the spindle.
8. Using the hex blade wrench and the spindle lock, firmly tighten the spindle bolt,
turning it clockwise onto the spindle to secure the blade.
ADJUSTING THE ANGLE OF CUT
IMPORTANT:
Unplug the saw.
1. See the angle scale on the front of the saw
2. Loosen the angle screw(
K. Bevel adjustment lock knobs,
above).
3. Hold the saw by the handle in one hand.
4. With the other hand grasp the base plate and tilt it to the desired angle accord-
ing to the angle scale.
5. Tighten the angle screws to lock the angle. You may want to make a test cut on
scrap material to verify the angle before proceeding.
ADJUSTING THE DEPTH OF CUT
IMPORTANT:
Unplug the saw
1. Loosen
the
Cutting depth adjustment lock lever
(B, above) at the back of the
saw.
2. Hold the saw by the handle in one hand.
3. With the other hand, grasp the base plate and raise or lower it to the desired cut depth.
CAUTION:
NOTE: When cutting, the saw blade should cut through the bottom of the material
by the length of one saw tooth.
4.
Retighten the
Cutting depth adjustment lever
to lock the depth adjustment. You
may want to make a test cut on scrap material to verify the depth of cut before
proceeding.
CAUTION:
push the saw through the material.

Be sure there are no nails or any other foreign objects in, on the workpiece,
or in the path of the blade. They could cause damage to the saw blade, injury
from kickback or even injury from flying debris.
2.
Make sure the work piece is properly supported at all times. Plan so that it is
properly supported during the cut.
3.
Whenever possible, secure the work piece with clamps or in a vise.

4. When making cuts parallel to existing straight edges, whenever possible, insert
the rip fence into the slots at the front of the saw. Fasten it in place at the de-
sired distance, with the screw clamp provided and use it to help keep the cut as
straight and parallel as possible.
