1. A ripping chain on the chainsaw is required for the best results.
2. Attach a 2x4 in. board (not
included) to the top of log with
one 4 in. nail or screw at each
end.
3. Pull the beam cutter along the
length of the board while
watching the spirit level.
Replace or level the board if
there is too much twist (Fig. 2).
4. Insert the bottom of the
chainsaw bar into the U-clamp.
Check that the chain does not
touch the clamp. Tighten both
bolts with a hex wrench to make
sure it does not come loose
while sawing (Fig. 3).
5. Place the beam cutter onto the
board. Start the chainsaw
following the instructions in the
operator’s manual.
6. Cut the log by walking
backwards and pulling chainsaw along with you. Move slowly and allow
the chainsaw to do the work (Fig. 4). Don’t force the blade as it can jam.
7. Place a wedge in the kerf as needed. Be careful of the saw blade when
doing so.
a. You may want to stop the saw to insert wedge. Back off of the cut
slightly when stopping. Squeeze the trigger when you’re ready to
start again. Allow the blade to attain speed before you begin
cutting again.
8. Stop the chainsaw when the cut is done and remove the beam cutter
from the board. Separate the board from the log. Turn the log until it is
in position for the next cut. Reattach the board.
