Frequency Asking Questions
Q: What is Serial ATA and how to use it exactly?
A
: The Intel
®
ICH6 chipset contains four integrated Serial ATA host controllers
capable of DMA operation on two ports. Unlike IDE bus, each Serial ATA channel
can only connect to one SATA hard disk at a time; there are total four connectors,
S_ATA1 to S_ATA4. The installation of Serial ATA is simpler and easier than IDE,
because SATA hard disk doesn’t require setting up Master and Slave, which can
reduce mistake of hardware installation. All you need to do is to plug in two
cables and enable SATA in System BIOS. (The Serial ATA hard disk of installation,
please see figure 5-9 as below)

After done with the installation of SATA hardware, please enter system BIOS to
enable Serial ATA function. Otherwise, Serial hardware won’t be recognized. To
enable SATA function, please see as following:
Q: Can I build Raid system on SATA bus with ROBO-8910VG2A?
A:
No, it cannot. It is because ROBO-8910’s south bridge is ICH6, which doesn’t
support RAID function.
