Starting, driving and stopping the vehicle

Risk of the vehicle rolling
away
In the following situations, the parking brake is not
active and the vehicle may roll away.
– When leaving the vehicle with drive position
N
engaged.
– If the driver's door is open and the driver's seat-
belt is unfastened, pressing the brake pedal and
selecting drive position D or R again will deacti-
vate the parking brake,
which can cause injuries and damage the vehicle. A
warning on the instrument cluster indicates that
there is a danger of the vehicle rolling away.
e Before leaving the vehicle, activate the parking
brake by pressing the P button.
Stopping the vehicle
e Press the brake pedal until the vehicle comes to
a standstill.
– When stopping briefly, stop the vehicle with
the brake pedal and leave the selector lever in
transmission range D .
On gradients, the vehicle is automatically held
stationary using the HOLD function.
Parking the vehicle
Select drive position P to secure the vehicle against
rolling away.

b b Hold the vehicle stationary by pressing the brake
pedal.

Press button P .
The parking lock and electric parking brake are
activated simultaneously.
The brake warning light (USA: / Canada:
) and indicator for drive position P on the in-
strument cluster light up.

b b Hold the vehicle stationary by pressing the brake
pedal.
b b Drive position D or R selected.
e Open the driver’s door and unfasten the driver’s
seat belt.
The parking lock and parking brake are activated
automatically.
The brake warning light (USA: / Canada:
) and indicator for drive position P on the in-
strument cluster light up.

e Switch off the vehicle using the power button.
The parking brake is activated automatically.
The indicator for drive position P on the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
If the vehicle is stopped on an upward or down-
ward slope of more than 8%, the parking brake is
also activated. The brake warning light (USA:
/ Canada: ) lights up.
Activating and deactivating the electric parking
brake manually
The electric parking brake can be activated or deac-
tivated in the central display, regardless of whether
drive position P is engaged.

Responding to warning symbols
The brake warning light (USA: / Canada:
) flashes if the electric parking brake is not fully ap-
plied when the vehicle is stationary.
If the parking lock cannot be activated, a warning
message appears on the instrument cluster.

Switching off operational readiness and leav-
ing the vehicle

e Exit and lock the vehicle.
