Flaps 50: Do they really use this?:
Yes! The MD-11 normally lands at Flaps

, but when performance calls
for it, you can select Flaps 50 for landing.
When selected on the airplane, Flaps 50 adds a significant amount of
drag, which has the effect of causing the airplane to tremble on the
approach. We have modeled this effect by adding some specialized
sound effects. Turn up the bass on your sounds, and you’ll experience
this feeling through the wonders of simulation.
