bus links, the following steps must be accomplished (refer to
Figures 3.3-1 through 3.3-7
):
1. At each node/repeater, disconnect all wiring not associated with the bus link to be tested.
2. Beginning at one end of the bus, select one node/repeater as the first data source location. Place a
transmit MET-1 here, or if a network node is present, configure it to transmit by assigning a non-zero
node address (repeaters should not be used as data sources when evaluating bus links). Set all other node
addresses on the bus to zero.
If a transmit MET-1 is used, press the SELECT button until the SELECTION window displays "1."
(terminated, refer to Section 2.4) and the transmit indicator illuminates. Press the START button. Once
the MET-1 detects no other source of data transmissions, "SEnd" will repeatedly flash on the display
while the MET-1 outputs test data.
3. Disconnect the network connector of each node/repeater (one at a time) and plug it into a receive MET-1.
Terminate the MET-1 in the same way as the node/repeater it replaces. Press the SELECT button until
the SELECTION window displays either "1" (unterminated) or "1." (terminated). Press the START
button. Refer to Table 3.1-1 for a detailed description of test messages.
Only the high data threshold
is acceptable for bus links.
4. When each receiving node/repeater location has been tested using the first transmitting location, discon-
nect the MET-1 transmitter, or set the transmitter node address to zero, and repeat steps two and three
for each node/repeater location. Hint: use several MET-1 units (one at each bus node/repeater location)
to avoid constantly moving and reconfiguring the test equipment.
