Format Icon on the Channel Banner to turn off auto-detection for an individual DVD
(see page 29). This screen gives you the option of turning off the auto-detection feature
for all DVDs and always using Video format.
Progressive Format - TV.
By default, the Recorder automatically detects whether a
program viewed in progressive format should be shown in Film or Video format. In
very rare circumstances, auto detection may result in poor image quality for programs
that should be displayed in Video format (relatively few programs should use Film
format). In these cases, you can use the Progressive Format Icon on the Channel
Banner to turn off auto-detection for an individual program (see page 29). This screen
gives you the option of turning off the auto-detection feature for all programs and
always using Video format.
RF Video Input.
If you used an RF coaxial cable to connect your program source to your
Recorder, you can choose to smooth the video on this screen, which will decrease any
static you may see and improve the picture on some channels. However, it will cause
images on all channels carried to your Recorder on an RF cable to lose some sharpness.
TV Aspect Ratio.
You can select the image
proportions for the type of TV you have: 16:9
(wide screen) or 4:3 (standard).
Wide Screen Format.
If you set the TV Aspect
Ratio to 4:3, use this setting to determine how you
want to display wide screen content. Choose
“Letterbox” to shrink the wide screen picture to fit
on the TV screen with black bars at the top and
bottom. Choose “Pan & Scan” to chop off the sides
of the picture to fit on the screen without shrinking.
