Test Images
Test images are generated in the camera FPGA, independent of the image sensor. They can be
used to check the transmission path from the camera to the acquisition software. Independent
from the configured grey level resolution, every possible grey level appears the same number
of times in a test image. Therefore, the histogram of the received image must be flat.
A test image is a useful tool to find data transmission errors or errors in the access
of the image buffers by the acquisition software.
The analysis of the test images with a histogram tool gives gives a flat histogram
only if the image width is a multiple of 1024 (in 10 bit or 12 bit mode) or 256 (in
8 bit mode). The height should be a multiple of 1024 In 12 bit mode.

Ramp
Depending on the configured grey level resolution, the ramp test image outputs a constant
pattern with increasing grey level from the left to the right side (see Fig. 5.40).

Implementation details:
8 bit:
Every row has the same data. The leftmost pixel has the value 0 and then the value is
incremented by 1 on every subsequent pixel up to a value of 255. After 255 the next pixel
has the value 0 and the sequence is repeated.
10 bit:
Every row has the same data. The leftmost pixel has the value 0 and then the value is
incremented by 1 on every subsequent pixel up to a value of 1023. After 1023 the next
pixel has the value 0 and the sequence is repeated.
12 bit:
The 10 LSB are the same as in the 10 bit mode. Bits 8 and 9 of the row number (starting
at 0) are mapped to the MSB 10 and 11. The two MSB of rows 0 to 255 have the value 0,
the two MSB of rows 256 to 511 have the value 1, and so on.
