Energiser storage
If the energiser is stored for an extended period, the battery may discharge.
The energiser should be turned off and should be stored in a sunny position in order for the
solar panel to keep the battery fully loaded. A red light flashes on the display every
20
seconds when the battery is fully loaded.
If the energiser cannot be stored in a sunny position, the battery should be disconnected. At
frequent intervals the battery should be recharged using a suitable 12 V battery charger.
Building an Electric Fence
Components of an electric fence
An electric fence system comprises the following elements:
• An energiser.
• An earth system. This comprises a number of metal stakes inserted into the ground, which
are connected to the earth terminal on the energiser.
• PATURA insulated underground cables. Used to connect the energiser to the earth and fence.
• An insulated fence. Connected to the fence output terminal of the energiser. Fences can be
made to a variety of designs (see below).
Note:
The animal receives a shock when it completes a circuit between the fence and the earth
system. The fence has all live wires and requires conductive soils.
Fence designs
Fences can be constructed to suit the type of livestock and materials available. Discuss with
your PATURA distributor which design best suits your needs.
Permanent electric fencing
PATURA offers a range of products that allow the farmer to construct permanent electric fences.
A professional permanent electric fence allows the farmer to:
• Fence in big areas (fields)
• Gain ideal conductivity for long fences
• Have maintenancefree fences for years
