Maximizing Battery Life
Expected battery life with new alkaline batteries is between
12 and 24 hours of continuous operation (depending on the
sensor used). Without batteries, Xplorer can retain data
memory contents and the date and time for over two days.
When away from a computer, good batteries are essential
for a successful measurement experience. The following
are some suggestions for maximizing battery life.
•
Turn off Xplorer when not in use.
To prevent dead batteries, Xplorer turns itself off if it is not
used for a few minutes. This only happens if no button is
pressed and Xplorer is not taking measurements.
•
Unplug the sensor when not performing measure-
ments.
When you finish taking measurements and are reviewing
data sets, unplug the sensor. Sensors are electronic devices
that consume power when attached. A sensor does not con-
sume power when Xplorer is turned off.
•
Use slow sample rates for long experiments.
If you set a sample rate of 15 seconds (or slower) between
measurements, Xplorer can turn off between measurements
and conserve power (depending on the type of power used.)
