Choose whether to convert 96 kHz LPCM signals to 48 kHz/16
bit.
[On]
[Off]
≥
Select “On” when using a copyright protected disc, since the
audio output does not work.
Dolby Digital
Choose whether to output Dolby Digital bitstream signals for
decoding on other equipment or to convert them to PCM
signals for 2-channel output.

[Bitstream]
[PCM]
°
Set “Dolby Digital” to “PCM”, “DTS” to “Off” and “MPEG” to
“PCM” if the other equipment doesn’t have decoders. Incorrect
settings can cause noise to be output which can be harmful to
your ears and speakers, and audio will not be recorded properly
to digital recording equipment.
Audio Mode for XP Recording
Choose the audio type when recording with XP mode.
[Dolby Digital]
[LPCM]
≥
Even if “LPCM” is set, sound becomes “Dolby Digital” in

[Stereo 2]
[Mix]
Fine
Pictures become clear and vivid. Normally, use this
setting.
Normal
Select it when recording noisy pictures.
Automatic
The unit automatically switches resolution during
recording according to the image. The unit reduces
block noise, which occurs during MPEG
compression, by selecting the optimum rate.
Fixed
The resolution is fixed to ensure the resolution rate
is not reduced.
Field
Still pictures are less blurred. Select if jittering
occurs when “Automatic” is selected.
Frame
Sharper frame stills are obtained. Select if small text
or fine patterns cannot be seen clearly when
“Automatic” is selected.
On
The scenes in play lists created with this unit are
played seamlessly. This may cause shifting of the
points where scenes change. Some play lists
cannot be played seamlessly.
≥
Seamless Play does not work with programmes
recorded in different audio or when using Quick
View.
Off
The points where scenes in play lists are played
accurately, but this may cause the picture to freeze
for a moment when scenes change.
Bitstream
When you have connected a unit with a built-in
Dolby Digital decoder.
PCM
When you have connected a unit that doesn’t have
a built-in Dolby Digital decoder.
°

≥
L1
i
L2 are recorded in L and R1
i
