Adjustments necessary to make Face Cuts
Unplug your Biscuit Joiner
•
Loosen bevel locking knob and height locking knob and set fence angle to 90º.
•
Rotate the height adjustment knob to slide the fence down completely or until
the indicator point is aligned with the 0 dimension on the scale.
•
Next, select the correct depth of cut setting for the biscuit size you plan to use,
clamp work piece securely and cut each slot at the marked centerline
intersection.
•
Place your biscuit joiner on the vertical board and align indicator marks on base
assembly with centerline on the vertical board.
•
Place a straight piece of wood on the vertical board and securely clamp it flush
against the base assembly. This piece of wood is used for a fence or guide. It
must be square with the sides of the vertical board and parallel with the
centerline.
•
Align the centerline on the bottom of the base assembly with marked
intersection for the biscuit slot.
•
Plug your biscuit joiner into the power supply and prepare to cut the slot.
•
Slide the switch trigger to turn on your biscuit joiner and then push it down to
extend the blade into the wood.
•
When the base assembly bottoms out against the depth of cut adjustment
knob setting, pull back releasing pressure on the spring. Blade will retract from
biscuit slot.
•
Repeat this procedure for cutting all required slots in vertical boards.
•
Once all biscuit slots have been cut, place a biscuit in each joint and dry
assemble the work pieces. Make sure each joint lines up and fits.
•
Finally, disassemble the work pieces and place a bead of glue in each slot.
Also, spread a bead of glue over the entire surface of the joint. Reinsert the
biscuits and assemble the work pieces.
•
Clamp work pieces together until the glue sets.
Mitre Joints
There are two types of mitre joints that can be made using biscuits: flat mitres and
edge mitres. Flat mitres are used when making picture frames. Edge mitres are
used when making boxes or things where you don’t want the show the end grain of
the wood.
Note:
Butt joints show the end grain in the wood.
