E. Chimney Requirements
When planning your fireplace location, the chimney con
-
struction and necessary clearances must be considered.
The fireplace system and chimney components have been
tested to provide flexibility in construction. The following
figures are the minimum distances from the base of the
fireplace.
•
Minimum overall straight height is 6 ft 4 in. If the
fireplace is freestanding and a minimum of 10 ft from a
combustible structure.

• Chimney must extend 2 ft (.6 m) above any portion of the
roof within 10 ft (3 m) of the chimney. Refer to Figure 8.7
Note:
A maximum of two pairs of offsets and returns may
be used.

NOTE:
Before framing up the chase, consider where and
how the chimney will run. If there are obstacles that might
be in the way, it may be necessary to make the chase
larger than shown to allow for offsets to be used. Refer
to offset chart above.
