Open all straps and temporarily close them upon themselves.
Separate the padding from the rods with the straps.
Apply the padding such that it fits closely to the leg, closing it at the back with the
appropriate Velcro
®
fasteners: first the thigh padding, then the calf padding (fig. A).
If necessary the padding may be shortened with a pair of scissors to adapt it to the
patient’s legs (fig. B).
Model the rods (by bending them) to fit them to the shape of the patients’ legs (fig. C).
Adjust the flexion extension as described (points 1-5, hinge adjustment):
perform the same operation on both joints.
Fix the rods to the pads (fig. D): the rods should follow the median line of the leg
and the joints should be aligned with the patella so as to rest on the condyles. To
align the rods with the median line of the leg, use the lateral malleolus and the
large trochanter as reference points.
Ensure that the two joints are at the same height.
Velcro
®
-fasten the straps after inserting them in the appropriate rings (fig. E):
fasten fi rst the thigh straps beginning with the one closest to the knee; then
proceed by fastening the calf straps. Tighten the straps so as to avoid vertical
migration of the guide.
NOTE: the bending procedure should be performed by hand, with the help of the
grips or laying the orthesis on a rounded body (chair, edge of a bed ); do not use
your own knee as a lever.
