The illustration is intended as a guide only. The fl ash control range varies with the
type of fl ash mounted on the camera and the conditions in the surrounding area.

• We recommend that each group contain no more than 3 fl ash units.
• Wireless fl ash photography is not available in anti-shock mode or in rear-curtain slow sync
mode when a shutter speed slower than 4 s is selected.
• Start wait times longer than 4 s cannot be selected in anti-shock and silent modes.
• Flash control signals may interfere with exposure if subject is too close to the camera. This
can be mitigated by reducing the brightness of the camera fl ash, for example by using a
diffuser.
Third-Party Flash Units
Third-party fl ash units can be mounted on the hot shoe or connected via a sync
cable. Be sure to replace the cap on the external fl ash connector when it is not in
use. Observe the following precautions when mounting a third-party fl ash unit on
the hot shoe:
• The camera X contacts (hot shoe and external fl ash connector) are not polarized. Note,
however, that older fl ash units requiring voltages over about 250 V must not be used, as they
could damage the connectors.
• Attaching fl ash units with connectors that do not conform to Olympus specifi cations could
cause product malfunction.
• When using a third-party fl ash unit, select shooting mode
M
, choose a shutter speed no
faster than the fl ash sync speed, and choose a setting other than [AUTO] for [
K
ISO].
• When adjusting fl ash output using fl ash controls, you will need to supply the fl ash with
information on the ISO sensitivity and aperture selected with the camera. Be sure to set ISO
sensitivity or aperture appropriately when adjusting fl ash output.
• Use a fl ash that covers the angle of the lens. Be aware that coverage is typically stated using
35 mm format equivalent focal lengths.
