3.8 PRINT TEST
To make sure the printer is installed correctly, simply run a print test as follows:
-
Make sure there is paper in the input tray.
-
With the printer powered off, press the POWER and CARTRIDGE keys simultaneously; release then the
POWER key followed by the CARTRIDGE key.
-
The printer will load paper and print the print test on up to three sheets of paper.
-
Upon completion of the print test the printer is ready for connection to the system.
With this test you can check whether the printer works correctly, obtain a printout of the printer's
configuration data and check that the print head nozzles work correctly.
3.9 CONNECTING THE PRINTER TO THE SYSTEM
Centronics Parallel Interface
This interface is a standard component on the printer and therefore does not require any additional option.
Handshaking is synchronized by the character strobe signal, issued by the system, and by the Busy signal
issued by the printer.
The 36-pin connection cable is supplied with the system and must not be more than 2.5 meters long.
An optional parallel interface is suggested as an alternative to the standard cable supplied.
3.10 POWERING OFF THE PRINTER
Before powering off the printer make sure the print head is at the far right-hand side of the carriage. It should
automatically reach this position after a few seconds of printer inactivity. The purpose for this is to tightly seal
the print nozzles to prvent the ink inside from drying-out.
Note: If the personal computer is powered off while the printer is still on, the printer will automatically reset
itself.
If the printer is powered off during the reset phase, the print head may stop outside its parking position.
It is therefore suggested to power off the printer before the personal computer.
