2.2.5 PAPER FEEDING MECHANISM
The paper feeding mechanism performs two opera-
tions: carriage return and paper feeding.
Carriage return operation
(See Fig. 2-10)
The paper feeding gear series (see Subsection 2.2.1,
Transmission/Select Mechanism) causes the return
lever to drop into the cam section of the print
changeover cam so that it meshes with the position-
ing plate (

arrow (1) and (2)).
The rotation of the print changeover cam restores the
return lever to its original position (

arrow (3)) and
rotates the positioning plate with which it is meshed
(
➡
arrow (4)).
As a result, the teeth of the positioning plate and print
cam are disengaged (5), and the force of the print
wheel spring and carriage spring returns the carriage
(
