2.4 - Finalise your OceanLED Installation
WARNING
: Always test the lights BEFORE the boat goes back into the water. Typical OceanLED light
installs
require the boat to be hauled out of the water to replace light units.
Bottom paint your lights.
TIP
: Marine growth can accumulate rapidly on the lights surface reducing performance within weeks. For
Amphibian lights use water-based antifouling paint only. Never use ketone-based paint since ketones can
attack many plastics possibly damaging the light. Reapply paint every 6 months or at the beginning of
each boating season. Leave the factory installed lens masking disk in place for this procedure and remove
the disk when the paint is dry. This will protect the lens from primer and paint. If you've lost your lens disk -
you may obtain another from OceanLED.
1.
Using a fine grit sandpaper, gently remove the shiny top layer with the sandpaper.
2.
Using a cleaner solvent, prime the flange area and leave to dry. This will enable the paint to better
stick to the surface.
WARNING
:
Do not sand or prime the lens at ALL!
A Teflon-like coating called Tritonium® fills the pours
of the glass lens allowing it to be cleaned easily. Sanding or priming this area will cause the coating to be
removed and may cause damage to the lens.
3.
Coat the light flange (and if the lens masking disk is still attached) and the entire light unit and
surrounding hull area with your selected bottom paint.
4.
Allow the paint to dry and reapply second coat. When dry remove the lens masking disk.
5.
Trailer Series models utilise Lens Tear Off Strips. Re-apply a new strip whenever the existing one
becomes damaged to ensure maximum light output.
Test your lights
Always test the lights BEFORE the boat goes back into the water. Typical OceanLED light installs require
the boat to be hauled out of the water to replace light units. At this final stage make sure all of the system
is operational. If you have any issues, please contact your local OceanLED representative.
WARNING
: Never install a new thru-hull and leave the boat in the water unchecked for several days.
When the boat is placed in the water, immediately check for leaks. Note that very small leaks may not
be readily observed. It is best not to leave the boat in the water for more than 3 hours before checking it
again. If there is a small leak, there may be considerable bilge water accumulation after 24 hours. If a leak is
observed you must take action immediately to prevent damage to the property.
