6.1.2 Evaluating the Streaming Tools
To evaluate the streaming capabilities of ZENworks Application Virtualization 8.0, you must
request a public key/private key pair when you download the product at the
Novell downloads Web
site (http://download.novell.com)
. The product overview page provides a link to your
Novell
Customer Center (http://www.novell.com/center)
account, where you can log in and retrieve the
evaluation key pair.
This key pair is used to validate that the application being streamed was created by you. To evaluate
streaming, use the evaluation private key to generate streaming configurations. Distribute the public
key to the devices that will execute the streaming key as described in
Section 6.2.3, “License
Certificates,” on page 31
. The key pair lets you create streaming applications for a 60-day evaluation
period. When this period ends, applications expire and can no longer be launched or streamed.
6.1.3 Purchasing a Permanent License and Key Pair
When you purchase the product, Novell or a Novell reseller sends you a link to a license file for the
application packager and a new key pair for streaming. If you were previously evaluating the
streaming capabilities of the product, you need to remove any existing evaluation restrictions on the
applications you have been streaming by following these steps:
1
Using the licensed applications packager, rebuild the applications you have been streaming.
See
“Adding Streaming Files to the Web Server” on page 32
for more information.
2
Using the new private key, generate new streaming configuration files. See
“Creating an
Application Configuration File” on page 33
for more information.
3
Distribute the new public key to each of the devices where you want to stream applications. For
more information, see
“Installing the Public Key” on page 32
.
4
Discard the original evaluation key pair.
6.2 Streaming Virtual Applications from the Web
You can set up a Spoon Standalone server plug-in that allows users to receive applications created in
Novell ZENworks Application Virtualization and streamed from the Web. This section includes the
following information:
Section 6.2.1, “Setting Up Files on a Web Server,” on page 30
Section 6.2.2, “Configuring the Web Server,” on page 31
Section 6.2.3, “License Certificates,” on page 31
Section 6.2.4, “Adding Applications to the Server,” on page 32
Section 6.2.5, “Testing the Spoon Standalone Setup,” on page 34
6.2.1 Setting Up Files on a Web Server
Use the following steps to set up Spoon Standalone plug-in files on a Web server.
1
Extract
template.zip
to the root folder for the Spoon Web site.
2
In the root folder, edit
scripts\spoon_config.js
to specify the correct location on the Web
server and the correct plug-in version. Do this by making sure that the
Spoon_SiteRoot
variable in this file refers to the root folder on the Web site where the Spoon files will be found.
