Example: Bending Anchor Bolts and U·Bolts (continued)
U·Bolts
The tables on pages
16
and
17
show the appropriate setup for making
U·bolts in typical finished leng1hs and bend radiuses, from common diame
ters of round stock.
The illustration below shows the setup for making a U·bo that is 3'/2 in. long
and 2-in.
1.0.,
using 5/,-in.-diameter stock. For olher sizes, adjust the die
sizes, stop block orientation, etc., as shown in the tables.
Length
For longer U-bo s, add
twice
the additional leng1h desired to the "blank
length" indicated (for example, to make a U-bo that is
1
in. longer, add 2 in.
to the blank leng1h).
Bend Radius
Eight bend radiuses are possible - by selecting from the seven forming
dies, or by using Ihe center pin w hout a die. However, to avoid bending the
center pin,
always
use a forming die with round stock
larger than
3/B-in.
diameter.
Notes
•
Because blank stock may vary slightly in content or size, we recom
mend making a test bend using unthreaded stock before you make a
qua ntity of U-bo s.
•
Keep a record of die sizes, die positions, and other measurements for
future reference.
