NSTALLATION PLANNING

The remote power amplifi er should be located in a closet
or utility room within 6 feet of a standard NEMA 5-15R
120 VAC receptacle wired to a dedicated 10-amp circuit
breaker. Do not install the amplifi er in an attic or in a humid
environment.

DO NOT INSTALL ANY AMPLIFIER OR

SPEAKER CABLES INSIDE THE 120 VAC J-BOX!

Do not

install within 18” of light controls, switches, or fan controls.

Determine the locations for each speaker pair (or single
speakers in monaural installations).

Determine the locations for the volume control for each
speaker area.

I

NSTALLATION ROUGH-IN

Install a single-gang and a two-gang J-box on each side of
a wall stud at the amplifi er mounting location. Be sure to
space the two boxes apart so the bottom edges are 9-1/4”
apart. This will allow the wires to align with the wiring holes
on the MC960PA mounting plate.

If additional MC960PA amplifi ers are going to be used for a
multi-amplifi er installation (up to three amplifi ers per system
allowed), repeat the above steps by installing another two
J-boxes at each amplifi er’s location.

For the speaker areas, install a single-gang J-box for each
volume control. Install any speaker rough-in rings required
to mount the speakers.

C

ABLE ROUTING

Route MS7X5SC cable from the dmc1H or dmc1HC wall
housing to the single-gang J-box installed for the amplifi er.

If additional MC960PA amplifi ers are going to be used for
a multi-amplifi er installation, route MS7X5SC cable from
the primary amplifi er’s single-gang J-box to the second
amplifi er’s single-gang J-box, then from the second amplifi er’s
single-gang J-box to the third amplifi er’s single-gang J-box.

Route MS5X5SC cable from the double-gang J-box installed
for the amplifi er(s) to each volume control J-box.

Route MS2SX5SC cable from each volume control J-box to
each speaker location.

W

IRE PREPARATION

Prepare both ends of all cables.

1.  On MS2SX5SC and MS5X5SC cables, strip off

the cable’s jacket

four

 inches back.

2.  On MS7X5SC cables, strip off the cable’s jacket

two

 inches back.

3.  On the MS5X5SC cables, the gray and brown wires are

not used. Cut off these two wires, their foil shield, and their
enclosed shield wire at the end of the cable’s jacket.

4.  Pull back the remaining foil shield(s) and separate the

bare shield wire(s). Note: There are two foil shields
and two shield wires on MS7X5SC cable.

5.  Tear off all foil shields at the end of the cable’s jacket.
6.  Separate the colored wires from each other.
7.  On MS2SX5SC and MS5X5SC cables, strip off

the colored wire insulation 1/2” back.

8.  On MS7X5SC cables, strip off the colored wire insulation 1/4” back.
