5 Laser unit

1. Detach the filter block mount-cover, check the
turret address, align the filter block with the
guide groove, and insert the block.
2. Turn the excitation method switching ring to
display the same number and affix a marking
sticker that corresponds to the type of filter
block attached.
Affix " " or " " (blank sticker for writing
down desired information) to those spaces with
no filter blocks.
3. Replace the cover on the filter block mount.

Laser unit
This unit is designed to guide the laser beam into the optical-fiber cable for excitation light. With this
system, you can use the two-laser unit employing up to two lasers or the three-laser unit utilizing a
maximum of three lasers.
Two-laser unit
This unit can incorporate a total of two lasers
namely, one air-cooled argon laser and one
He-Ne or solid-state laser.

Air-cooled argon laser: 488 nm output (manufactured by Spectra-Physics; Model 161C-030)
•
He-Ne laser: 594 nm output (manufactured by JDS Uniphase; Model 1677P)
•
Solid-State laser: 532 nm output (manufactured by JDS Uniphase; Model CDPS532M-020)
Three-laser unit
This unit can incorporate a total of three lasers
namely, one air-cooled argon laser and two
He-Ne lasers, or one air-cooled argon laser, one He-Ne laser, and one solid-state laser.

Air-cooled argon laser: 488 nm output (manufactured by Spectra-Physics; Model 161C-030
or 163-C02)
•
He-Ne laser: 633 nm outputs (manufactured by JDS Uniphase; Model 1144P) or 594 nm and
633 nm outputs
•
Solid-State laser: 532 nm output (manufactured by JDS Uniphase; Model CDPS532M-020)
Whichever unit is chosen, the motorized shutter and the ND filter are provided in the laser
optical path to allow opening/closing of the shutter and adjustment of laser intensity by that
laser alone.
The laser unit has been precision-aligned to guide the laser beam into the optical-fiber cable.
Never touch the air-cooled argon, He-Ne laser, Solid-State laser, or excitation light optical-fiber
cable. Contact your nearest Nikon representative if you find it necessary to detach the laser head
from the laser unit due to laser failure or other problems.
