Connecting to the ISDN Port
To connect to the ISDN port, connect one end of the ISDN cable into the ISDN port on the back
panel of your router. Depending on how the ISDN port is labeled, connect the other end of the
ISDN cable as follows:
• If the ISDN port is labeled ISDN-S, connect the other end of the cable into an NT-1 (Network
Termination) device or into an S/T interface wall jack.
• If the ISDN port is labeled ISDN-U or ISDN-D, connect the other end of the cable directly to
the ISDN wall jack.
Connecting to the LAN Port
The Model RT328 router supports the following two types of Ethernet LAN connections:
• Unshielded twisted pair (UTP) LAN cabling
• Coaxial or fiber LAN cabling
Follow the procedure that is appropriate for your installation.
Using UTP LAN Cabling
The UTP LAN port is used for connecting to a 10BASE-T network, using UTP cabling and RJ-45
8-pin phone type connectors. Two types of UTP cable are included with your router, a white
straight-through cable and a red crossover cable. Use the following guidelines to choose the
correct cable:
• To connect your router to an Ethernet hub, use the white straight-through Ethernet cable to
connect the UTP port on your router to a normal (MDI-X) port on the hub.
• To connect your router directly to one PC or workstation, use the red crossover Ethernet cable
to connect the UTP port on your router to the network interface card of the PC or workstation.
