Placement on the ceiling or wall
Installing on the ceiling is recommended.
Mark where the screws will go using the
base as a guide. If you’re installing on the
wall, make sure it’s within 30.5 cm (12 in)
of the ceiling.
Placement on a sloped ceiling
If the slope of your ceiling is more than
19 degrees, there’s a triangle of dead air
below the peak that should be avoided.
To check where the dead air ends, think of
the peak of your ceiling as the top point of
the triangle. The side of the triangle is your
wall. The base of the triangle connects the
wall to the slope of your ceiling. When the
base is 90 cm (35.4 in) long, you get the
outline of the dead air. Your smoke alarm
should be installed on the ceiling or wall not
more than 20 cm (7.9 in) below the dead air.
