INFORMATION FOR QUALIFIED REPAIR PERSONNEL
PROBLEM: Cannot Clear "PC LIFE" Message
After printing approximately 7000 pages, the printer stops operating, and the control panel displays
"OP MESSAGE PC LIFE", meaning the OPC Cartridge (PC Drum) has reached the end of its useful life. However,
after following the correct procedure for replacing the OPC Cartridge, the printer still displays "OP MESSAGE PC
LIFE" and won't resume operation.
SOLUTION: Verify Problem and Replace the OPC Detection Microswitch
Follow the procedure provided below to verify the problem and access, examine, and replace the OPC Detection
Microswitch. Located just below the OPC Cartridge release lever (see Figure 1), the microswitch consists of three poles
with a black wire on the bottom pole and a white wire on the middle pole. When the OPC Cartridge is removed, the Erase
Lamp lowers onto the microswitch and activates it, resetting the PC count back to 0 from 7000. The Depot and field have
both reported this microswitch being broken, so that the reset never takes place. Replace the microswitch as follows.
NOTE
Other causes of the problem may be the G9WPM board, cable connections, or the PC Reset Switch. Section 5 of the
Silentwriter LC 800 Series Field Maintenance Guide (819-150347-001) contains procedures for removing and
replacing these items.
1. Verify that "OP MESSAGE PC LIFE" cannot be cleared by following the procedure for OPC Cartridge replacement
(see Section 3 of the field maintenance guide for details on OPC Cartridge replacement):
•
Make sure the printer is turned on.
•
Pull the colored release lever forward to open the upper unit.
•
Push and hold up the colored OPC cartridge release lever.
•
While holding up the colored cartridge release lever, grasp the OPC Cartridge handle and slide the OPC
Cartridge out of the printer.
•
Discard the OPC Cartridge.
•
Press the PC Reset button on the lower right front of the printer to reset the OPC Cartridge copy count to zero.
(Note that the PC count can only be reset when the OPC Cartridge is removed.)
•
turn off and unplug the printer.
•
Remove the new OPC Cartridge from its case.
•
Carefully slide the new OPC Cartridge along the guides inside the upper unit until you hear both sides lock
firmly into place.
•
Close the upper unit immediately, then plug in and turn on the printer.
2. If the control panel still displays "OP MESSAGE PC LIFE", turn off and unplug the printer, remove the OPC
Cartridge, and immediately place the cartridge in its protective case.
3. Remove the middle cover, upper cover, and left side cover by following the procedures described in Section
five of the maintenance guide.
