Vector-LP – Adding Standby Side

Issue 1.0

FM10011

3  Turning On the standby side

3.1  NDB Applications

(a)  Remove any ac power “lock out” devices and apply ac power (and dc power source, if

applicable) to the transmitter.

(b)  Terminate the transmitter’s RF output in a suitable 50 ohm dummy load.

(c)  In the Changeover Control menu, set Monitor mode to BYPASS and Main side to A.

NOTE

When a replacement exciter monitor/generator PWB has been installed, all audio settings
must be re-entered so the values are written into the PWB’s RAM.

(d)  In the Peripherals -> Keyer Settings -> Audio Levels menu, decrease the Keying Pot

value by 1 and press

Done

. Then increase the Keying pot value to its original value and

press

Done

(e)   In the Peripherals -> Keyer Settings -> Keyer Modulation menu, toggle the tone

frequency. Toggle the Tone Frequency again so it returns to the original setting. Also
toggle Modulation, Keyer and Tone Generator OFF and then ON.

(f)  Record all the settings in the Peripherals -> Keyer Settings -> Keyer Sequence menu,

including Frame Sequence, Keyed String, Frame Format and Frame Timing.

(g)  Record all the settings in the Peripherals -> Keyer Settings -> Standby Code 1 and

Standby Code 2 menus.

(h)  Set the transmitter RF output power to 0 W (press

Power Increase

 and

Decrease

buttons at the same time).

(i) Press

RF On

and increase the RF output power to 25 W.

(j)  Record the modulation depth (Mod %) from the GUI’s Meters screen.

(k)  Connect an oscilloscope or frequency counter to the RF synthesizer PWB’s output

(A5TP7) and verify the transmitter is operating at the correct carrier frequency.

(l)  In the Changeover Control menu, set the Main side to B so that the transmitter switches

to operate on side B.

(m) Verify the transmitter RF output power is 25 W. If the transmitter power is not 25 W,

adjust

GAIN TRIM

potentiometer R31 on the side B interphase PDM driver PWB (A9)

until the output power is 25 W.

(n)  Again measure the modulation depth (Mod %) from the GUI’s Meters screen. If the

modulation depth is not the same as measured in step 3 (j) change the Side B Scale
value (in the Peripherals -> Keyer Settings -> Audio Levels menu) until the modulation
level is the same as it was in 3 (j). Ensure the Side A Keying Pot value is restored to its
initial value (see 3.6.13.1 in the Vector-LP manual).
