NI Switches Getting Started Guide
Installing an NI SwitchBlock Card
Refer to Figure 3 and complete the following steps to install an NI SwitchBlock card.
Note
You may install NI SwitchBlock cards in the NI SwitchBlock carrier before or after installing
the carrier in a chassis.

1.
Power off and unplug the NI PXI/PXIe chassis.
2.
If the NI PXI/PXIe chassis has multiple fan speed settings, ensure that the fans are set to high.
3.
Position the NI PXI/PXIe chassis so that inlet and outlet vents are not obstructed. Refer to the
chassis documentation for more information.
4.
Remove the filler panel of an unused slot in the NI SwitchBlock carrier.
5.
Touch any metal part of the chassis to discharge static electricity.
6.
Slide the card into the empty slot, ensuring that the card engages with the card guides in the carrier,
as shown in Figure 3. When you begin to feel resistance, continue to push the card into the slot until
it clicks into place and the card front panel is even with the front panels of adjacent cards or filler
panels.
7.
Tighten the screws at the top and bottom of the card front panel.
8.
Cover all empty NI SwitchBlock slots using blank NI SwitchBlock filler panels.
