OWER SUPPLY

The

RX-5

receiver works with a wide range of voltages from

3,6 - 7,5 V (

Æ

4 – 5 cell NiCd or  NiMH receiver battery).

The receiver battery should be connected to the socket marked
“5/B”, or any vacant servo socket 1 … 4 (

Î

).

!

Note

A power supply in good condition, and of a capacity to suit the
application, is fundamentally essential to the reliable function of
the RC system, and therefore to the safe operation of the model:

x

Use only high-quality, well maintained receiver batteries with
properly balanced and fully charged cells. The pack must be
of adequate capacity.

x

Ensure that cable conductors are of adequate cross-section,
and keep all wiring as short as possible. Do not fit extra
connectors unless absolutely unavoidable.

x

Use high-quality switch harnesses exclusively.

Voltage collapses can cause your RC system to malfunction.
They can occur due to a receiver battery which is flat, too weak
or defective, or cables with inadequate conductor cross-section,
poor connector contact or an overloaded or faulty BEC system.

NSTALLATION NOTES

x

Receivers contain components which are vulnerable to
vibration. Protect the unit from vibration by packing it loosely
in foam; this is particularly important in any model powered by
an internal combustion engine.

x

When installing the receiver, keep it as far as possible from
the power system (e.g. electric motor, speed controller, flight
battery) and other electronic components. Do not route the
aerial directly adjacent to these parts.

x

Conventional electric motors (not brushless types) must be
properly suppressed, e.g. using the suppressor set

 # 8 5020

.

x

If you have to use servo extension leads longer than 50 cm,
use separation filters, e.g. # 8 5035.

x

Do not alter the length of the receiver aerial.

x

Wherever possible route the aerial out of the model; do not
coil it up.

x

Do not deploy the aerial parallel to servo leads, high-current
cables or electrically conductive parts (e.g. metal pushrods).

x

Do not deploy the aerial inside or on any model component
which is clad or reinforced with a conductive material such as
carbon fibre, metal-loaded paint etc. (shielding effect).

x

Keep to the recommended arrangement (sketches A - C).

ARRY OUT A RANGE CHECK

Regular range checks are very important in order to ensure that
your radio control system operates reliably, and to help you
detect problems and potential problems in good time. In
particular:

x

Before you use any new or modified components, or when
the arrangement of the components has been changed.

x

Before you use any radio control component which was
formerly used in a model which suffered a crash.

x

When you had a problem last time you operated the model.

Important:

x

Always ask a friend to hold the model and watch its reactions
when carrying out a range check (model vehicles and boats
should be placed on the ground).

x

The range check should always be carried out with the
standard telescopic aerial fitted, but completely collapsed.
Don’t use a stub aerial for range checking!

x

Ensure that no other transmitter is switched on while you are
carrying out the range check.

With the telescopic aerial collapsed to its minimum length, the
range of the

RX-5

receiver should be around 50 m, although this

will vary according to the prevailing weather, the terrain, and
geographical conditions. When you reach the range limit, the
servos will begin to jitter; they will eventually carry out
uncontrolled movements, and will cease to respond to control
commands. If your transmitter features an automatic servo test
function, we recommend that you use it for one function, e.g.
rudder. This provides a regular servo movement, and it is easier
to detect when the receiver no longer responds properly to
control commands.

Important:

Carry out the initial range check with the motor stopped, then
repeat the check with the motor running (varying the throttle
settings): effective range should not be significantly reduced. If
the range is much lower, then you must seek out the cause of the
problem (motor interference, receiving system arrangement,
vibration, etc.) and eliminate it.

ISPOSAL NOTES

Electrical equipment marked with the cancelled waste
bin symbol must not be discarded in the domestic
rubbish. Instead it should be taken to a suitable
specialised disposal point.

In the countries of the EU (European Union) electrical
equipment must not be discarded through the
household waste system (WEEE - Waste of Electrical and
Electronic Equipment, directive 2002/96/EG). The best method of
disposal is to take your old equipment to your local collection
point (e.g. recycling centre), where the staff will dispose of it in
the appropriate manner, and at no cost to you.

You can make an important contribution to the protection of the
environment by discarding unwanted equipment in the proper
manner.
