Belt Replacement
IMPORTANT:
Allow the engine to cool if it has been
running.
1.
Disconnect and ground the spark plug wire.
2.
Drain the fuel tank.
3.
Position the trimmer so the rear edge of the trimmer
base is resting securely on a work bench, and pivot
the handle down.
NOTE:
The handle should be securely weighted
down, so the trimmer stands on end.
4.
Remove the hex nuts from the carriage bolts that
secure the deflector shield to the trimmer base,
using a 7/16” wrench. See Figure 14.
5.
Remove the carriage bolts and the deflector.
6.
Disconnect the extension spring from the belt
keeper bracket.
7.
Remove the belt keeper bracket, using a pair of 1/2”
wrenches. See Figure 15.
8.
Loosen the idler pulley nut and bolt, using a pair of
1/2” wrenches, until the belt keeper opens.
9.
Slip the belt off of the idler pulley.
10.
Loosen the idler bracket nut and bolt using a pair of
1/2” wrenches.
11.
Grasp the idler bracket assembly and pull inward
until the belt can be removed from the spindle
assembly.
12.
Slip the belt out of the spindle pulley groove. See
Figure 16.
