Preparing to install the VM
Introduction to
VM installation
This part of the supplement provides all the information required to install the VSWR
Monitor (VM) and test that the VM is operating correctly.
Part numbers
SWUF6020 VSWR Monitor (includes dc input and alarm output cables)
SWKN6706 Set of three 1.0 m coaxial cables for the VM
SWKN6705 Set of three 1.5 m coaxial cables for the VM
SWKN6702 Set of three 2.0 m coaxial cables for the VM
SWKN6703 Set of three 2.5 m coaxial cables for the VM
SWKN6704 Set of three 3.0 m coaxial cables for the VM
Cables of an appropriate length can be assembled on site if one of the above
sets of coaxial cables is not suitable. They will require straight DIN 7/16 male
connectors.
Although there is no maximum recommended length for the coaxial cables,
they should be kept as short as possible.
NOTE
Choosing a
location
Choose a suitable location for mounting the VM, paying particular attention to the
following:
S
The orientation of the VM, so that the RF cable runs will be reduced to a minimum.
S
Easy access to the six coaxial connectors on the VM will be required.
S
The length of the coaxial cable set (if a set of pre-assembled coaxial cables is to
be used).
S
Availability of a –48 V dc power supply.
Tools and
equipment
required
The following tools/equipment are required to install the VM:
S
Cable connector crimping tools (for terminating the dc power input and alarm
output cables
S
Assembly tools for DIN 7/16 connectors (not required if a set of pre-assembled
coaxial cables is to be used).
S
Digital Multi-Meter (DMM) (for measuring open and closed circuits).
S
6 x M4 bolts or screws (not supplied with the VM).
S
A suitable socket wrench or screwdriver (depending on the type of bolts/screws
used to mount the VM).
S
A pair of snipe nose pliers (for removing and refitting the cable loss compensation
jumpers).
