Installation
When installing a shelf over the top of the fireplace, the follow
-
ing guidelines must be adhered to:
For Side Vent applications, the minimum clearance is 10" from
the
top of the fireplace to the underside of any combustible
shelf.
For Top Vent applications, the minimum clearance is 17
½
" from
the
top of the fireplace to the underside of any combustible
shelf.

NOTE: Clearance from top of fireplace to a ceiling within the
fireplace enclosure.
Clearances
1” clearance is maintained on sides and bottom of vent runs and
2” above horizontal vent runs to any combustible material.
Installing the Nailing Flange Extension
Once the fireplace is placed into the rough framed opening, the
supplied Nailing Flange Extension (Part No. H38074) must be
fasten securely into place, with nails or wood screws. as shown
in Figure 7.
Installing the supplied non combustible header
Included with the L38DF-ST* gas fireplace are two metal headers
made of galvanized steel. The metal headers must be installed
after the fireplace has been back framed in place. Install metal
headers at 34 1/2" from the base of the unit, as shown in figure 6.

Note: The nailing flange extension can be substituted with a
piece of NON-Combustible material of the same size and thermal
characteristics, ie: cement board or equivalent. This is recom-
mended in applications where the facing materials will not
adhere to the metal nailing flange.
