6. Installing idler gear
1) Apply engine oil to the idler gear shaft.
2) Install the idler gear with its marks in
alignment with the marks on the injection
pump drive gear, camshaft gear and
crankshaft gear, as shown in the illustration.
3) Put the thrust plate on the idler gear and
tighten the bolt with washer to the specified
torque.
4) Move the idler gear back and forth in the axial
direction to make sure it has correct end play.
7. Checking timing gear backlash
After installing the timing gears, check them for
backlash, as shown in the illustration.
