To get connected to the Internet, you need an Internet service provider (ISP), which is a company
that provides access to the Internet.

In order to view files on the Web, you need Web browsing software. A Web browser is a
computer program that enables a user to access and view Web sites on the Internet. To begin
surfing the Internet, you need to open a Web browser such as Internet Explorer.

To surf the Internet you will need to log on to an ISP. Once you are logged on and your Web
browser is launched, you can:

type in Internet addresses (URL’s)

click on hyperlinks
•
search the Internet for a wide range of information

Every page of the Internet is assigned a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), which is an Internet
address that identifies the location of any Web page. The best way to surf the Internet is by typing
a URL into the
Address
bar of your Internet browser.
For example, typing the address (or URL)
www.micronpc.com
accesses MicronPC’s Web site
and all its associated Web pages.
