restraint system when the front passenger
seat is unoccupied and a seat belt is
buckled
When the front passenger seat is unoccupied
and the seat belt tongue of the seat belt is
engaged in the seat belt buckle, components
of the restraint system may deploy unnecessa-
rily on the front passenger side, e.g. the Emer-
gency Tensioning Device.

Only buckle the seat belts as intended.

force. Do not hold the seat belt tightly while it is

The ü seat belt warning lamp on the instru-
ment display is a reminder that all vehicle occu-
pants must wear their seat belts correctly.
The
ü seat belt warning lamp will light up for
six seconds every time the vehicle is started.
In addition, a warning tone may sound.
When the driver's and front passenger's doors are
closed and the driver and front passenger have
fastened their seat belts, the seat belt warning will
go out.
In the following cases, the seat belt warning will
light up during a journey if:

The vehicle speed exceeds 15 mph (25 km/h)
and the driver's or front passenger seat belt is
not fastened.
R
The driver or front passenger unfastens his or
her seat belt while the vehicle is in motion.
