W arning!
Worn, old tires can cause acci
dents. If the tire tread is badly
worn, or if the tires have sus
tained damage, replace them.
W hen replacing rims, use only
genuine MERCEDES-BENZ wheel
bolts (identified by Mercedes
star) specified for the rim type.
Failure to do so can result in the
bolts loosening and possibly an
accident.
Wheels
Replace rims or tires with the same
designation, manufacturer and type as
shown on the original part. See your
authorized MERCEDES-BENZ dealer
for further information.
W arning!
Do not mix different tire construc
tion types (i.e. radial, bias, and
bias-belted) on your car because
handling may be adversely
affected and may result in loss of
control.
See your authorized MERCEDES-
BENZ dealer for information on tested
and recommended rims and tires for
summ er and winter operation. They
can also offer more advice concerning
tire service and purchase.
Tire replacement:
Front tires should be replaced in sets.
Furthermore - in the event of tire re
placement - the spare wheel, if pos
sible, should be used on the rear axle.
Rims and tires must be of the same
size.
For dimensions see “Technical Data”.
We recommend that you break in new
tires for approx. 100 km (60 miles) at
moderate speed. It is imperative that
the wheel mounting bolts be retighten
ed after approx. 1 0 0-500 km
(60 -3 0 0 miles).
On new vehicles retightening is car
ried out during the 1st inspection.
Retightening is also necessary w hen
ever wheels are fitted, e.g. when the
spare wheel is used for the first time
or when a set of wheels with M+S
tires is installed.
Tightening torque: 110 Nm (80 ft.lb.).
For rim and tire specifications, refer to
“Technical Data”.
Rotating wheels:
The wheels can be rotated according
to the degree of tire wear while
retaining the same direction of travel.
Rotating, however, should be carried
out, at a mileage of 5 0 0 0 -1 0 000 km
(3000-6000 miles), before the
characteristic tire wear pattern
(shoulder w ear on front wheels and
tread center wear on rear wheels)
becomes visible, as otherwise the
driving properties deteriorate.
