Safety Guidelines for the Seat Belt,
Emergency Tensioning Retractor
and Airbag
W arning!
• Damaged belts or belts that
were highly stressed in an
accident must be replaced and
their anchoring points must
also be checked. Use only
belts installed or supplied by
an authorized MERCEDES-
BENZ dealer.
• Do not pass belts over sharp
edges.
• Do not make any m odification
that could change the effective
ness of the belts.
• The “S R S ” is designed to func
tion on a one-tim e-only basis.
An airbag or emergency
tensioning retractor (ETR) that
was activated must be repla
ced.
• No m odifications of any kind
may be made to any com po
nents or wiring of the “S R S ”.
This includes the installation of
additional trim material, bad
ges, etc. over the steering
wheel hub or front passenger
airbag cover and installation of
additional electrical/electronic
equipm ent on or near “S R S ”
com ponents and wiring.
• Im proper work on the system,
including incorrect installation
and removal, can lead to pos
sible injury through an uncon
trolled activation of the “SR S ”.
• In addition, through improper
work there is the risk of render
ing the “S R S ” inoperative.
W ork on the “S R S ” must there
fore only be performed by an
authorized MERCEDES-BENZ
dealer.
• W hen scrapping the airbag
unit or em ergency tensioning
retractor, it is m andatory to
follow our safety instructions.
These instructions are avail
able at your authorized
MERCEDES-BENZ dealer.
When you sell the vehicle we strongly
urge you to give notice to the subse
quent owner that it is equipped with
an “SRS” by alerting him to the appli
cable section in the Ow ner’s Manual.
