Preventing carbon monoxide poisoning
Never start the engine indoors.
Never try to ventilate engine exhaust fumes indoors. Carbon monoxide can reach dangerous levels
very quickly.
Never run the engine outdoors where exhaust fumes may be drawn into a building.
Never start the engine outdoors in an area with poor ventilation where the exhaust fumes can get
trapped and cannot cannot easily disperse, such as in large pits or hollows.
Never start the engine in an enclosed or partially enclosed area, such as near abuilding with other
buildings close by or one one or more sides, tents, carports or basements.
Always run the engine with the exhaust pipe and muffler pointed away from the operator.
Never point the muffler towards anyone. Keep onlookers at a safe distance.
Handling fuel safely – fire hazard
Fuel and fuel fumes are highly flammable. Never use fuel in the vicinity of sources of heat, such as hot
water heaters, heaters and drying devices etc.
Safety instructions to prevent petrol fires
Never fill the fuel tank with fuel indoors or in an enclosed area.
Always fill the fuel tank outdoors in a well-ventilated area.
Never remove the filler cap and top up with fuel when the engine is running. Switch off the engine
and allow it to cool before refilling with fuel.
Never drain fuel from the engine in an enclosed area.
Always wipe off any fuel spilled on the engine before starting. Wipe up spilled fuel immediately.
Wipe up spilled fuel and allow any residue to evaporate before starting the engine.
Allow fuel fumes to disperse from the area before starting the engine.
Check that the filler cap is properly closed before starting and using the engine.
The filler cap must always be properly closed when the engine is running.
Replace the filler cap if fuel leaks out.
Never smoke while refuelling.
Only use approved, non-metal, portable fuel containers.
Do not store the engine indoors with fuel in the tank. Fuel and fuel fumes are highly explosive.
Never pour out fuel from the fuel tank.
Never siphon fuel by mouth to drain the fuel tank.
Children must never be allowed to fill the fuel tank.
Never allow children or anyone who is under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication to fill the
fuel tank.
RISK OF BURN INJURIES/FIRE
The muffler, muffler guard and other parts of the engine get hot when the engine is running – risk of burn
injuries.
Safety instructions to prevent burn injuries/fire
Never remove the muffler guard from the engine.
Never touch the muffler guard – risk of serious burn injury.
Never touch parts of the engine that get hot during use.
Always keep foreign objects and debris away from the muffler guard and other hot parts on the
engine.
