Switching between drive centre and face plate
The jaws of the spanner fit over the drive spindle's
jaw width. Unscrew the face plate or drive centre
towards you.
Centre lathing
For centre lathing, use a long workpiece with the ends between the lathe's drive centre and counter
centre.
Marking centre points
Draw 2 diagonal lines from corner to corner on the
ends of the workpiece. The intersection of these 2
lines is the centre point. Mark the point with an awl
or a drill.
Mounting workpiece for centre lathing
Unscrew the drive centre from the drive spindle.
Place the apex of the drive centre at the centre
point of the workpiece and tap in the centre using a
wooden or rubber mallet.
Positioning tool rest
The position of the cutting tool and the operator's
comfort are more important than the height
setting of the tool rest. Start the lathe with the tool
rest set at centre height and then raise or lower
the tool rest as needed.
