medi ROM
Walker
Intended purpose
medi ROM Walker is a lower-leg foot
brace for mobilisation with an
adjustable range of motion.
Indications
All indications which require early
functional mobilisation with limitation
of the range of motion in joints of the
lower-leg foot region, such as:
•
Following fibula fractures (post-opera-
tive and conservative)
•
Following fracture-dislocations of the
upper ankle
•
Following injuries of the forefoot and
midfoot and the tarsus (conservative)
•
After operations on ligament, soft
tissue and tendon injuries
•
Secondary treatment of talus
fractures, calcaneal fractures and
medial malleolus fractures
•
For early functional therapy of Achilles
tendon rupture (conservative/
post-operative)
Contraindications
Unstable fractures or fractures of the
proximal tibia or fibula
Risks / Side Effects
If the aids are too tight, this can cause
local pressure sores or constriction of
blood vessels or nerves. Therefore you
should consult the doctor treating you
before you use it if the following
circumstances apply to you:
•
Condition or injury of the skin in the
area of application, particularly with
infectious indications (excessive heat,
swelling or reddening)
•
Paraesthesia and circulatory disorders
(e.g. as seen in diabetes, varicose veins)
•
Lymph drainage disorders – equally,
swelling of soft tissue adjacent to the
area of application which is not related
to a condition
When wearing snug-fitting aids, this can
result in localised skin inflammation or
irritation that is due to mechanical
irritation of the skin (particularly in
conjunction with sweating) or due to the
composition of the material.
Intended patient groups
Healthcare professionals should provide
care to the adults and children, applying
the available information on the
measurements/sizes and necessary
functions/indications and in line with
the information provided by the
manufacturer, and acting under their
own responsibility.
Adjusting plantar- and dorsiflexion
To adjust the range of movement turn
the opening in the plastic cover to the
current position of the pins. Press the
pin in and slide to the desired degree
figure.
Plantarflexion: 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 40°
Dorsiflexion: 20°, 10°, 0°
The medial (inside) and the lateral
(outside) wedge settings must always be
the same.
Information for technicians
Where the joint is fixed at an angle other
than 0° (e.g. immobilised at 30°
plantarflexion), the patient will require
additional walking supports. If the
patient is intended to be able to put
weight on the foot a plantarflexion
can also be achieved by elevating the
heel using the heel wedge set which is
available separately, whereby the joint is
then fixed at 0°.
Fitting instructions
•
First open all the hook and loop
fasteners and the leg/foot padding (A).
