Set-up
When setting it up with other equipment, make sure that the appliance is well ventilat-
ed. Keep a sufficient distance from heat sources. Do not place the active PA subwoofer
box in the direct vicinity of heat sources, such as a heater. Do not point any strong
beams or light sources onto the device. This may lead to overheating (risk of fire).
The heat extraction of the device may not be obstructed. Do not cover the backside of
the device. The air circulation must not be obstructed by objects such as magazines,
tablecloths, curtains or similar. This prevents heat extraction from the device and can
lead to overheating (risk of fire).
Do not drill any additional holes or screw any additional screws into the housing, since
this could make contact to dangerous voltages possible.
Make sure that the connection cables are not being pinched or damaged by sharp
edges. Always lay the cables so that nobody can trip over or become entangled in
them. Risk of injury.
The cables must be sufficiently long. Avoid mechanical strain on the cables. This may
damage the cables or the device. There is a danger of fatal electric shock.
Do not place the Active PA Subwoofer Box in the direct vicinity of screens such as TV
sets or computer monitors. The magnetic field of the speaker might distort the image
of such devices.
Only operate the Active PA Subwoofer box on a stable surface which is not sensitive
to heat.
When setting up the device, make sure that it has a stable footing and that the set-up
place is correspondingly stable. Serious injury to persons can be caused if the loud-
speakers fall.
It is not permitted to suspend the Active PA Subwoofer box from the carrying handles
or any other fittings.
The Active PA Subwoofer box has the option to mount a satellite box (or top part) on
the subwoofer box by means of a distance bar. The distance bar must be stable and
suitable to carry the load of the satellite box. If the Active PA Subwoofer box is com-
bined with a satellite box, make sure they cannot tumble. Therefore, consider the
weight of the satellite box, the length of the distance bar and the base of the Active PA
Subwoofer box.
• Set up the Active PA Subwoofer box at the desired location.
• On the upper side of the Active PA Subwoofer Box, there is a distance bar flange. If required, a distance
bar can be attached to the flange on the upper side of the box to which a satellite box can be attached.
• Align the sound outlet as desired.
Connecting the signal input and output
The input may be connected only to low-level audio outputs of audio devices.
The Active PA Subwoofer box and the device it is connected to must both be switched
off during connection.
Always use suitably shielded stereo or XLR cables for connecting inputs and outputs.
Using incorrect cables may lead to interference.
In order to prevent distortion and maladjustment which could lead to damage to the
Active PA Subwoofer box, only connect audio devices with XLR-output or stereo out-
put.
Do not lay the connection cable in such a manner that it could be tripped over.
• Connect LINE IN (5) to the pre-amplifier of the upstream audio device (e.g. mixer). The connection LINE
IN (5) is equipped with a combined socket which allows the connection of stereo and XLR plugs.
• Connect LINE OUT (6) with the input of another device that will receive the same signal as the Active PA
Subwoofer box.
Mains Connection
The mains outlet which the Active PA Subwoofer box is connected to must be easily
accessible to quickly disconnect the device from the mains voltage in case of an error.
The Active PA Subwoofer box and all connected devices must be turned off when con-
necting the voltage supply.
Ensure that all the electrical connections and connection cables between the different
devices and any extension cables comply with the regulations and comply with the
operating instructions.
• Insert the non-heating appliance plug of the mains cable into the mains connection (8).
• Plug the power plug of the power supply cable into a wall socket.
• The POWER switch (7) is used to switch the Active PA Subwoofer box on and off.
Position „O“: Device is switched off.
Position „I“: Device is turned on.
• When the device is switched on, the POWER ON indicator (4) lights up.
Start-up and Operation
Only put the appliance into operation when you have become familiar with its features
and these operating instructions. Check again that all connections are correct.
Do not put the product into operation if it is damaged.
The Active PA Subwoofer box should always be the last to be turned on and the first
to be turned off. In this way you prevent any undesired noises, which can typically
occur when switching off a mixer, from damaging the Active PA Subwoofer system.
The device may only be operated by persons familiar with the operating instructions.
Keep other persons and children away from the device.
• Turn the control SUB LEVEL (1) back completely (to the left).
• Switch on the connected mixer and start the playback.
• Turn on the Active PA Subwoofer box with the POWER switch (7).
• The POWER (4) indicator is lit.
• As soon as the Active PA Subwoofer box detects a signal at the input the SIGNAL OK indicator (3)
lights up.
• Adjust the volume on the mixer to about 75% of the maximum volume or to the maximum undistorted lev-
el (visible on devices with recording level displays and the „0 dB“ marking).
• Adjust the volume of the Active PA Subwoofer box with the LEVEL control (1) to the maximum desired
volume.
• This setting enables a high signal-to-noise ratio and provides the best audio quality.
• After this basic setting, the volume is set using only the volume control on the mixer. The set-up proce-
dure needs to be repeated with every change to the circuit.
• Adjust the low-bass separation frequency using the SUB CROSSOVER controller.
• Shift the PHASE switch (10). Depending on the set-up location of the Active PA Subwoofer box the phase
reversal of the subwoofer, which can be achieved using this switch, may improve the bass response. The
position leading to a cleaner and louder bass is the right one.
• If the Active PA Subwoofer box switches off during volume peaks, it is overloaded. The PEAK/LIMIT indi-
cator (2) lights up and the built-in amplifier is switched off to prevent damage. Turn down the volume in
this case. Switch the Active PA Subwoofer box on when overloading no longer occurs.
• To switch the complete system off, first switch off the Active PA Subwoofer box with the POWER switch
(7) and then switch off the mixer.
Maintenance and Care
The Active PA Subwoofer box does not require any maintenance.
It should only be vacuumed on the outside. Make sure not to touch the sensitive speaker membranes.
Never use aggressive cleaning agents or chemical solutions as the carpet cover or the membrane could be
damaged.
Fuse replacement
If fuses have to be changed, make sure that they are replaced only with fuses of the same type and rated
current (refer to the „Technical data“).
You must not carry out your own repairs to fuses or bridge the fuse holder.
• Only after disconnecting from the mains (unplug at the socket) should the non-heating appliance plug be
unplugged from the mains connection (8) on the device. Lever out the fuse holder next to the mains con-
nection (8) with the defective fuse.
• Remove the defective fuse and replace it with a fuse of the same type.
• Now carefully put the fuse holder with the new fuse back in.
• Afterward, reconnect the mains cable with the device and plug into a socket.
Disposal
Please dispose of the product, when it is no longer of use, according to the current statutory
requirements.
